Description

The speckled spinetail (Cranioleuca gutturata) is a species of bird in the family Furnariidae. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical swamps.

Feeding Habits
Speckled Spinetail primarily consumes insects, such as cockroaches, Heteroptera, beetles, and spiders. It forages alone or in pairs within mixed-species flocks, targeting dead leaves for 70% of its food in Southeast Peru. Speckled Spinetail is an adept feeder, moving acrobatically along branches, gleaning and probing for prey.
Habitat
Speckled Spinetail predominantly resides in lowland regions with abundant evergreen forests, often favoring environments such as várzea and transitional forests. These birds are typically found in areas characterized by dense vine growth and a preference for forests with poor drainage or those positioned alongside streams.
