Feeding Habits
Blue-throated Blue Flycatcher's diet consists primarily of small invertebrates, flies, cicadas, and larvae. Preferring to forage solo or in pairs, blue-throated Blue Flycatcher actively hunts near ground level in underbrush, often by streams. Blue-throated Blue Flycatcher captures prey mid-flight and exhibits unique wing and tail flicking while calling.
Habitat
The blue-throated Blue Flycatcher favors forested environments, thriving in areas with dense undergrowth and ravines within broadleaf evergreen and mixed deciduous forests. It also occupies swamp forests, secondary forests with an underlayer of bamboo, and is comfortable in human-modified landscapes such as parks and well-wooded gardens. Its habitat distribution spans across broad geographical regions in Southeast Asia, where it utilizes a range of forest types, from sea-level mangroves during migration to dry lowland forests in the winter.
