Size
15 cm
Life Expectancy
5 years
Feeding Habits
Song Wren primarily consumes terrestrial invertebrates like spiders, millipedes, orthopterans, and beetles, occasionally adding small vertebrates. It forages in leaf litter and understory, employing unique adaptations for extracting prey from cover.
Habitat
Song Wren typically reside in lowland primary and secondary growth tropical wet forests across broad geographical regions, favoring forest interiors and avoiding dry Pacific coast forests. These birds are terrestrial, mainly foraging in leaf litter or dense lower vegetation, and prefer structurally complex microhabitats in the understory that shield them from direct light. Song Wren show a proclivity for darker, tangled vegetation, especially in treefall gaps, and their foraging is characterized by leaf-tossing and probing primarily at ground level. Resting and preening often occur on low, horizontal perches, such as lianas.
Dite type
Insectivorous
