Description
The yellow-bellied dacnis (Dacnis flaviventer) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae, the Tanagers. It is found in Amazonian regions of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil; also the eastern Orinoco River region of Venezuela. Its natural habitat is the canopy of tropical humid lowland forest. The yellow-bellied dacnis is mostly an Amazon Basin bird, except being absent in the northeast with the Guianas. A range extension from the contiguous range extends into central Bolivia. In Venezuela, besides the Amazonian drainages, the species is also in the eastern regions of the Orinoco River drainage and the headwaters.

Feeding Habits
Yellow-bellied Dacnis is an omnivorous canopy forager, consuming small fruits, insects, nectar, homopterans, and lepidopteran larvae. Yellow-bellied Dacnis shows a preference for nectar from Combretum vines and berries, visiting various fruiting and flowering vegetation. Stomach analysis reveals a varied diet with both animal and vegetable matter.
Habitat
The yellow-bellied Dacnis resides primarily in tropical evergreen flooded forests, specifically igapó, várzea ecosystems, and riverine islands. It thrives in naturally regrowing areas like river edges and open forest gaps, often found in habitats with palms, bamboo, or tall trees. Adaptability allows it to occupy disturbed territories including secondary forests and former agricultural lands, favoring the upper canopy in partially illuminated zones with moderate foliage.
