Description
Its crown and head can be white, grey or black, and its body is either whitish or grey often streaked with black and grey. Its wings are black, with a broad bar in either white or cinnamon. The iris is dark orange, and the eye-ring legs and feet are orange-yellow. The beak is orange with a black tip that can extend as far as the base. Colouration completely depends on the subspecies, and certain subspecies are known to hybridize. In the future some subspecies may become species in their own right.

Feeding Habits
Varied Sittella primarily consumes insects, especially beetle larvae and adult beetles, supplemented by spiders, bugs, and other arthropods. They forage at various heights, demonstrating notable sexual differences in substrate and foraging levels. Their technique involves scaling bark to dislodge prey and using feet to manipulate food.
Habitat
Varied Sittella predominantly inhabits a range of dry forests and woodlands, especially areas with eucalyptus and dense vegetation like shrubby undergrowth or grassy covers. It also favors environments with abundant acacia species, including arid zones with tall shrublands, and woodlands characterized by casuarinas and paperbarks. Varied Sittella is less common in moist eucalypt forests and systematically avoids all types of rainforests.
