Feeding Habits
Tawny-winged Woodcreeper predominantly feeds on insects and small vertebrates, ranging from beetles and caterpillars to spiders and wasps. It follows swarms of army ants to catch prey, also consuming seeds and pulp. Unique adaptations aid in exploiting diverse food sources during foraging.
Habitat
The tawny-winged Woodcreeper typically resides in the dense undergrowth of lowland humid evergreen forests but is also found in mangrove ecosystems and semi-deciduous forests, particularly across the Yucatán Peninsula. This bird species favors mature forests and older second-growth areas, occasionally venturing into forest edges and semi-open habitats. Although it mostly inhabits regions up to 500 meters elevation, it can be observed up to 1200 meters in the Mexican foothills and occasionally at 1500 meters in Costa Rica.
