Feeding Habits
White-chinned Woodcreeper primarily feasts on arthropods like hymenoptera, beetles, and orthopterans while occasionally capturing small vertebrates. As an obligate ant-follower, white-chinned Woodcreeper selectively forages over army ant swarms, often within 1 meter of the ground, and shows a preference for smaller prey relative to bill size compared to other antbirds. Aggressive at swarms and rarely seen elsewhere, white-chinned Woodcreeper might cover over 300 meters seeking ant activities and also forages by following peccaries.
Habitat
The white-chinned Woodcreeper is primarily found in humid terra firme forests and those on floodplains. It inhabits areas with open understories within mature forests and occasionally ventures into older secondary growths and forest edges. This species favors environments with less dense vegetation, often found around stream fringes, and may inhabit bamboo thickets or riverine forests. Its presence is generally restricted to forest undergrowth, preferring lower strata of the forest compared to similar species.
