Feeding Habits
Tyrannine Woodcreeper's diet is largely insectivorous, actively foraging alone in lower to middle forest strata, typically 2-15 meters high. Prefers perching on tree-ferns and slimmer trunks, and displays unique sallying behavior to catch prey rather than pecking or probing. Selects trunks with fewer epiphytes, and is not known for following army ants unlike its congeners.
Habitat
The habitat of tyrannine Woodcreeper is characterized by its preference for humid forests, particularly the dense interiors of mature forests and the regions of cloudforests found in upper tropical to lower temperate zones. These birds can also be found in older second-growth forests and may sometimes be observed near forest edges. They tend to avoid clearings and stay predominantly within forested areas, establishing their presence in montane regions of broader geographical areas like the Andean slopes.
