Feeding Habits
Planalto Woodcreeper primarily eats arthropods including spiders, ants, beetles, and flies, and is known to consume small vertebrates like frogs. Planalto Woodcreeper forages solo or in pairs, using sallies to catch prey near ant swarms or by hitching and pecking at mid-level to canopy areas. Planalto Woodcreeper prefers rough-barked trees, is dominant over smaller birds at swarms, but can be supplanted by larger species.
Habitat
The planalto Woodcreeper habituates in a variety of forested environments primarily along the Atlantic coast. Its preferred habitats include humid lowland and montane forests, semi-deciduous woodlands, palm swamps, and gallery forests within diverse ecosystems such as caatinga, cerrado, and Chaco regions. This bird is often found in the interiors of mature forests, second growth and forest edges, though it typically avoids forest borders. It may also occasionally venture into human-modified landscapes like gardens, plantations, and clearings close to forests.
