Habitat
The black-throated Flowerpiercer predominantly inhabits diverse montane environments characterized by scrub vegetation and forest edges. It can be found in both semi-humid and dry regions, where it favors habitats with low-stature montane scrub, particularly those with Brachyotum and Gynoxys plants. The species is also present in agricultural areas, cultivated lands, hedgerows, and bushy streamside regions. Additionally, it thrives in Polylepis woodlands situated above the treeline and can adapt to degraded regions with remaining scrub, as well as areas with introduced Eucalyptus.
