Feeding Habits
Black Flowerpiercer sustains itself on nectar puncturing flower bases, avoiding competition by retreating into dense shrubs. It also consumes insects, captured from foliage or mid-air, and defends its solitary foraging territory aggressively.
Habitat
Black Flowerpiercer occupies the humid montane habitats from subtropical zones to the Paramo environment, at elevations of 2,175 to 4,000 meters, often between 2,700 and 3,400 meters. It is prevalent on forest edges, elfin woods, and shrubby borders near the tree line. Adaptability allows black Flowerpiercer to inhabit varied vegetations, including urban parks and gardens, extending to Polylepis woodlands and low shrubs above the tree line.
Dite type
Nectivorous
