Feeding Habits
Glossy Flowerpiercer primarily feeds on nectar, puncturing flower bases with its specialized bill and revisiting them for more. It includes insects in its diet, occasionally catching them mid-air. While it forages alone or with flocks, it's secretive, often hidden in dense vegetation.
Habitat
The glossy Flowerpiercer is commonly found in humid, shrubby montane thickets and mossy forests approaching the tree-line. It adapts well to disturbed habitats, including overgrown pastures, hedgerows, and flower gardens. While thriving in highland environments, in the East Andes, the glossy Flowerpiercer is especially prevalent at higher altitudes in subpáramo and stunted vegetation, but also inhabits populated areas and cultivated landscapes.
