Description

Size
11 cm
Feeding Habits
Blue-fronted Lancebill primarily feeds on nectar from pendulous flowers like Ericaceae and Loranthaceae and horizontal flowers of Rubiaceae. Blue-fronted Lancebill exhibits both hovering and flycatching behaviors, often foraging along streams and forest edges, and occasionally defending feeding territories. Hover-gleaning foliage for insects, especially by females, is also observed.
Habitat
The habitat of blue-fronted Lancebill is characterized by humid lower mountain slope forests, foothills, and adjacent lowland regions. These birds thrive particularly in uneven terrains including dark ravines, gorges, and areas with rocky outcrops. They are commonly observed occupying mid-strata to lower canopies within forests but may also be found at shrub level near forest edges and (in the case of females) nesting areas.
