Size
13 cm
Feeding Habits
Scaled Antbird eats insects and spiders, foraging between ground level to 6m high in dense vegetation and tree interiors. They actively hop and flick wings, scanning for prey, and exhibit sally-gleans to snatch food. Unique foraging includes hitching up tree trunks and following army ants for nomadic populations.
Habitat
Scaled Antbird's primary habitat includes the understory of lowland and foothill evergreen forests, as well as second-growth woodlands. This species is also found in diverse environments ranging from Heliconia thickets in poorly drained areas to more open restinga woodlands near coastal regions. While scaled Antbird is generally not closely associated with bamboo, it does exhibit regional variations in habitat preference, sometimes occupying bamboo thickets or areas without bamboo.
