Description
The pied imperial pigeon (Ducula bicolor) is a relatively large, pied species of pigeon. It is found in forest, woodland, mangrove, plantations and scrub in Southeast Asia, ranging from Myanmar and Thailand, throughout Indonesia and east to the Philippines (where it is locally called as balud-puti) and the Bird's Head Peninsula in New Guinea. It is mainly found on small islands and in coastal regions. It remains locally common, and is therefore considered to be of least concern by BirdLife International and IUCN.

Life Expectancy
6-8 years
Feeding Habits
Pied Imperial Pigeon, primarily frugivorous, consumes a wide gamut of fruits and seeds. It forages in the canopy, showing preference for fruits of native tree species. These pigeons display no notable unique dietary adaptations but contribute greatly to seed dispersal.
Habitat
Pied Imperial Pigeon typically inhabits a range of coastal and island environments, including dense rainforests, lush eucalyptus woodlands, and scrubs. These birds favor areas with access to water, such as creeks and rivers, and are commonly found in mangroves. They adapt well to human-altered landscapes, making use of coconut plantations for food resources. Pied Imperial Pigeon nests and roosts on small offshore islands and is frequently observed in both mainland coastal regions and on larger island habitats to forage. While predominantly a lowland species, pied Imperial Pigeon can be found at elevations up to 1100 meters, demonstrating its capacity to inhabit varied tropical ecosystems.
