Feeding Habits
Large Elaenia's diet consists of insects and fruit, often foraging alone high in the canopy. It exhibits an upright perch posture and engages in perch-gleaning and hover-gleaning, typically on exposed twigs at foliage edges or treetops.
Habitat
The habitat of large Elaenia is predominantly the peripheries of dense forested areas, often preferring forest edges, scrubby clearings, and riparian zones in the process of ecological succession. Large Elaenia typically inhabits regions with an abundance of fruiting trees, especially during the austral winter, and can sometimes be seen in vegetated areas surrounding human structures. This bird generally selects more heavily wooded environments compared to its relative, E. flavogaster.
