Description

The white-breasted tapaculo (Eleoscytalopus indigoticus) is a species of bird in the family Rhinocryptidae. It is endemic to Atlantic forest in southeastern Brazil. It is threatened by habitat loss. Together with the closely related Bahia tapaculo, it was formerly placed in the genus Scytalopus, but these two species are now known to be closer to the bristlefronts (genus Merulaxis).

Feeding Habits
White-breasted Tapaculo primarily consume insects, foraging in a mouse-like manner close to or on the ground, typically without cocking its tail. This method is a notable feeding behavior.
Habitat
The habitat of white-breasted Tapaculo comprises primarily the ground and lower undergrowth layers in a variety of forested environments. This species thrives in open forests, where partial canopy coverage allows for dense undergrowth, the edges of closed-canopy forests that provide a mix of shade and light, and in thick secondary forests that have regrown after disturbance. White-breasted Tapaculo favors regions where these forest types are present within broader geographical zones that support its ecological requirements.
