Feeding Habits
Lark-like Bunting's diet primarily consists of grass seeds, supplemented with forb seeds, green leaves, and a range of invertebrates like caterpillars, termites, beetles, flies, millipedes, and spiders. They forage on the ground, pluck grass-heads by jumping, and routinely seek water to drink, typically foraging in flocks of about 31.
Habitat
The lark-like Bunting is commonly found in semi-arid grasslands and shrublands, with a preference for both rocky and sandy terrains. It is particularly associated with the broad Karoo ecosystem, which encompasses the western succulent Karoo and the eastern grassy Nama-Karoo. During periods of drought, this species may expand into more mesic habitats and is occasionally seen in gardens within Karoo villages.
