Description
The Pallas's reed bunting is a small passerine bird, similar to a small reed bunting. It has a small seed-eater's bill. The male has a black head and throat, white neck collar and underparts, and a heavily streaked grey back (reed bunting has a browner back). The female is much duller, with a streaked brown head. It is less streaked below than female reed bunting. The song of the male is a repetitive sherp.

Feeding Habits
Pallas's Bunting predominantly consume invertebrates, seeds, other plant material, and insects, foraging on the ground with a preference for varied and opportunistic feeding.
Habitat
Pallas's Bunting's habitat ranges from high latitude tundra and forest-tundra with tall herbage to lowland tundra river valleys with dense willow or alder thickets. It prefers drier and cooler areas compared to its relative E. schoeniclus, often choosing open larch forests, subalpine tundra amongst dense vegetation like Rhododendron, or dwarf birch patches. Subspecies lydiae is more prevalent in tussock grasslands bordering wetlands and desert steppes. Outside of breeding seasons, pallas's Bunting occupies lowland plains, commonly in irrigated shrubby areas, near rivers and lakes with reeds, or in agricultural landscapes such as grassy or rice fields.
