Feeding Habits
White-throated Flycatcher primarily feeds on insects such as beetles, small wasps, nymphs of mantids, grasshoppers, damselflies, and homopterans. Occasionally, white-throated Flycatcher consumes fruit. This bird employs a foraging technique to catch prey in mid-air, exhibiting an aerial hunting strategy that is characteristic of flycatchers.
Habitat
White-throated Flycatcher's habitat is characterized by open and semiopen landscapes, often in proximity to water sources such as streams or marshes. These environments typically feature a mix of hedges, shrubby vegetation, and grassy areas. This bird favors high elevation pine-oak forests with clearings and is also drawn to damp meadows and areas with irrigation ditches. During the nonbreeding season, white-throated Flycatcher is closely associated with marshlands rich in tall rushes, reeds, and scrubby peripheries, highlighting its dependence on a diverse range of wetland ecosystems.
