  Feeding Habits
Chestnut-backed Sparrow-lark's diet includes grass seeds and insects, especially grasshoppers when feeding chicks. Nestlings consume a mix of invertebrates, seeds, and unidentified items. Chestnut-backed Sparrow-lark forages on the ground in flocks, using elevated perches to avoid heat, and drinks regularly.
    Habitat
Chestnut-backed Sparrow-lark predominantly inhabits arid to semi-arid regions, thriving in open landscapes such as short grasslands and savannas. These birds favor environments with minimal vegetation cover, including recently burnt areas, fallow or freshly ploughed agricultural fields, and other bare groundscapes. They are adapted to dry ecosystems across broad expanses of sub-Saharan Africa where such habitat conditions prevail.
