Description
The red-throated parrotfinch (Erythrura psittacea) is a species of estrildid finch found in New Caledonia. It has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 20,000 to 50,000 km². It is found in both subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and shrubland habitats. The IUCN has classified the species as being of least concern.

Feeding Habits
Red-throated Parrotfinch consumes a variety of grass seeds, dicotyledon fruits, poppies, hemp and figs, along with insects and spiders. It forages mostly on the ground, in trees and shrubs, and feeds in pairs, family groups, or small flocks.
Habitat
The red-throated Parrotfinch is commonly found in a variety of habitats including forest fringes, where grassy clearings meet dense woodland, as well as in shrubby areas adjacent to farmlands. They are also observed within managed plantations, mangrove ecosystems, and in the distinctive Melaleuca, or paperbark, woodlands. These environments are characterized by their vegetation diversity and the interface between open and forested areas.
