The crimson-rumped waxbill (Estrilda rhodopyga) also known as rosy-rumped waxbill is a common species of estrildid finch found in eastern Africa. It has an estimated global extent of occurrence of 830,000 km. It is found in Burundi, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. The IUCN has classified the species as being of least concern.

Feeding Habits
Crimson-rumped Waxbill's diet consists primarily of small grass seeds, grass shoot tips, ant larvae, termites, aphids, and spiders. They feed both perched and on the ground, occasionally holding food with their feet. Crimson-rumped Waxbill forages in pairs or groups, sometimes with other estrildids.
Habitat
The crimson-rumped Waxbill typically inhabits arid to semi-arid regions characterized by bushy grasslands and savannas dominated by acacia species. They are also found in areas with dense thickets, grassy marshlands, and regions of cultivation that have become overgrown. These birds favor environments that offer both cover and open areas for foraging.
