Feeding Habits
Green-throated Carib primarily consume nectar, supplementing their diet with insects and spiders. They exhibit specialized feeding behaviors like hovering, utilizing their long bills to extract nectar. Unique adaptations, such as their brush-tipped tongues, enable efficient nectar consumption.
Habitat
The green-throated Carib typically inhabits moist forests and secondary growth gardens, often venturing into semi-decidous forests with open vegetation. This species is also found in cultivated landscapes, parks, and along flowered roadsides. While readily seen in more humid regions, green-throated Carib has been observed in drier zones of Martinique and coastal areas of eastern Puerto Rico. It is less prevalent in mountainous regions but may frequent foothills, as on Dominica. Seasonal post-breeding dispersal can lead green-throated Carib to move towards more humid areas.
