Description
The verditer flycatcher (Eumyias thalassinus) is an Old World flycatcher It is found from the Himalayas through Southeast Asia to Sumatra. This species is named after its distinctive shade of copper-sulphate blue and has a dark patch between the eyes and above the bill base. The adult males are intense blue on all areas of the body, except for the black eye-patch and grey vent. Adult females and sub-adults are lighter blue. The verditer flycatcher is also interesting among the flycatchers in that they forage above the canopy level and perching on electric wires or exposed tree top branches. This species was earlier placed in the genus Muscicapa and it has been suggested that it is closer to the Niltava flycatchers.

Feeding Habits
Verditer Flycatcher primarily consumes small invertebrates and ripe berries, foraging predominantly in the tree canopy. Its diet is characterized by aerial sallying, a hunting technique where the bird catches prey mid-flight. Verditer Flycatcher exhibits a preference for particular types of berries when available.
Habitat
Verditer Flycatcher predominantly dwells in various forested habitats ranging from lowland to lower montane regions. Its natural settings include forest fringes, clearings, and shrublands near watercourses, as well as areas bordering agricultural lands. Additionally, verditer Flycatcher occupies groves of towering trees, and it adapts to anthropogenic landscapes such as parks and gardens. Geographically, verditer Flycatcher is distributed across broader elevational zones, typically from 1200 to 3000 meters in montane areas, preferring elevations below 2400 meters for breeding. At lower elevations, it can be found up to approximately 1300 to 1400 meters in regions like the Malay Peninsula, Sumatra, and Borneo. During the non-breeding season, verditer Flycatcher also utilizes mangrove forests in certain locales.
