Feeding Habits
Thick-billed Euphonia primarily feed on a variety of small fruits, including berries, mistletoe drupes, and figs, supplementing their diet with seeds and other vegetable matter. They forage actively in trees and exhibit a preference for certain melastomes. Notably, thick-billed Euphonia have evolved a distinct feeding approach to access their favored foods.
Habitat
Thick-billed Euphonia thrives in a range of partly open to wooded habitats, often found in locales such as woodlots, forest edges, gallery forests, and second-growth woodlands. This species also inhabits plantation areas, cultivated fields with trees, and riverine environments like floodplain forests and river island vegetation. Geographically, thick-billed Euphonia occupies broad territories, from lowlands to higher elevations reaching 1200 meters in Panama, approximately 2200 meters in Colombia, and upwards to 2000 meters in the Urubamba Valley of Peru.
