Feeding Habits
Rufous-sided Scrub Tyrant primarily feeds on arthropods, supplementing its diet with small fruits. It forages close to the ground, often in pairs, using short sallies to glean prey from grass and shrubs, and exhibits a distinctive tail-jerking behavior reminiscent of wrens.
Habitat
The rufous-sided Scrub Tyrant thrives in a variety of open and shrubby landscapes, predominantly within expansive campos, the mixed tree and grassland areas of the cerrado, and in regions with tall grassland vegetation. This species is also known to seek shelter within bamboo-thickened scrublands, particularly as a refuge in post-fire conditions. Its presence is not limited to any specific elevation within its ecological range.
