It is found in Costa Rica and Panama of Central America, and Colombia, Ecuador, and far northern Peru. There is also a single recent record from Mérida in Venezuela. Feeding Habits
White-tipped Sicklebill primarily feeds on nectar but also consumes insects, small arthropods, and spiders. This species employs its specialized curved bill to extract nectar from deep flowers, often hovering while feeding. It exhibits a preference for certain tubular flowers, aligning with its unique bill shape.
Habitat
The white-tipped Sicklebill predominantly inhabits the understory of montane evergreen forests, thriving in regions characterized by dense vegetation and proximity to water sources such as rivers. These birds are also commonly found at the forest edge and within adjacent areas of mature secondary growth.
