Description
Description
Atlas pied flycatcher or Atlas flycatcher (Ficedula speculigera) is a bird in an Old World flycatcher family, one of the four species of Western Palearctic black-and-white flycatchers; it is endemic as a breeding species to North-west Africa. It was formerly regarded as a race of European pied flycatcher, but Sætre et al. (2001) recommended that it is regarded as a species in its own right. The bird has large white patches on its wing and forehead. Identification is also covered in Etherington and Small (2003) and van den Berg et al. (2006).

Feeding Habits
Atlas Pied Flycatcher's diet mainly consists of insects like flies, beetles, and caterpillars, supplemented with spiders, molluscs, and worms. It also occasionally eats fruits and seeds. Atlas Pied Flycatcher forages in trees and bushes, as well as on the ground, often sallying to snatch flying prey. Unique foraging behaviors include smashing snails to eat and gleaning dragonfly larvae from ponds.
Habitat
The atlas Pied Flycatcher predominantly resides in forested habitats conducive to nesting owing to the presence of suitable cavities. It favors woods with cedar, oak, and aleppo pine, generally within broadleaf and mixed woodlands in the North African region.
