Feeding Habits
Slaty-blue Flycatcher's diet consists of small invertebrates like centipedes, midges, and beetles. It forages alone or in pairs, typically near the ground in undergrowth, and employs both pouncing and aerial pursuits. With a nearly horizontal stance, slaty-blue Flycatcher frequently droops its wings and flicks its tail during hunting.
Habitat
The slaty-blue Flycatcher commonly resides in subalpine shrubbery and bush-covered hills dominated by specific vegetation like Viburnum nervosum and Salix denticulata. Its habitat extends to the undergrowth of moist oak-rhododendron and coniferous forests. Outside the breeding season, they occupy thick bush-covered slopes, ravines, and forest undergrowth, as well as non-forested landscapes including tall grasses, reedbeds, and agricultural fields such as sugar-cane. This species is generally associated with montane and hilly regions across broader areas of the Himalayas.
