13 cm
Feeding Habits
Rusty-backed Antwren consume various insects, including hemipterans and coleopterans, and likely spiders. They forage mostly close to the ground in shrubs and small trees, employing short hops and fluttery flights interspersed with pauses to locate prey. Rusty-backed Antwren exhibit unique side-to-side hitches and tail cocking while hunting, perch-gleaning, or making short sallies to obtain food, sometimes joining mixed-species flocks.
Habitat
The rusty-backed Antwren typically inhabits the undergrowth within diverse ecosystems such as cerrado brushland, campos scattered with trees, shrubs, white-sand forests, wet grasslands, and secondary scrublands. This species favors more open habitats compared to where it coexists with similar species within broader regions of tropical South America.
