The spot-breasted laughingthrush (Garrulax merulinus) is a species of bird in the family Leiothrichidae. It is found in Yunnan, Northeast India, Laos, Myanmar, north-west Thailand, and northern Vietnam. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. The orange-breasted laughingthrush (S. annamensis) of south-central Vietnam was formerly regarded as a subspecies of this bird but is now often treated as a separate species.

Spot-breasted Laughingthrush forages on or near the ground, often doing so alone, in pairs, or within family groups. Despite its unobtrusive nature and skulking behavior, detailed dietary preferences remain unspecified.
Habitat
The habitat of spot-breasted Laughingthrush consists predominantly of understory shrubbery and edges of broadleaf evergreen forests. These birds are also commonly found in bamboo groves, dense thickets resulting from overgrown abandoned agricultural lands, and areas of dense secondary growth and scrub. They are known to inhabit regions characterized by such dense vegetation and the presence of forested areas.
