Description
The black-polled yellowthroat is 12.5-14 cm (4.9-5.5 inches) long and weighs 10–11.8 grams (0.35-0.42 ounces). The male is olive above and yellow below, with a black mask. The female is duller.

Habitat
Black-polled Yellowthroat typically inhabits regions with dense freshwater marsh vegetation primarily composed of cattail and bullrush. Their preferred ecosystems include swamps, floodplains, and highland wetlands. Although less common, they can also be found in habitats dominated by plants of the genera Heleocharis and Cyperus. These birds are most often associated with wetlands across broader geographical regions that provide ample vegetation for cover and nesting.
