Description
The violaceous quail-dove (Geotrygon violacea) is a species of bird in the family Columbidae. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and heavily degraded former forest.

Feeding Habits
Violaceous Quail-dove forages mostly on the forest floor for seeds and fallen fruits, supplementing its diet occasionally with small invertebrates. This species may exhibit particular preferences for certain fruits or seeds, indicative of unique dietary adaptations.
Habitat
Violaceous Quail-dove typically inhabits the dense, shaded understory of tropical lowland evergreen forests and secondary forests, as well as cacao plantations. It is found up to elevations of 1650 meters. In contrast to related species, violaceous Quail-dove has a more arboreal nature, often opting to perch higher in the understory.
