Feeding Habits
Tawny-crowned Honeyeater primarily consumes nectar (42-68%) and insects (32-58%), with plant sources including Banksia and Eucalyptus. Tawny-crowned Honeyeater forages in shrubs and on ground, employs sally-striking for insects, and may also feed on honeydew. Typically foraging alone or in small groups, tawny-crowned Honeyeater can gather in numbers during abundant food supply.
Habitat
The habitat of tawny-crowned Honeyeater primarily includes coastal and semi-arid inland heathlands, characterized by an open structure of low vegetation not exceeding 2 meters in height. Dominant flora in these habitats comprises Banksia, Allocasuarina, and patches of stunted Eucalyptus or Angophora. Tawny-crowned Honeyeater is also found in non-heath shrublands, Tasmanian sedgeland-moorlands with buttongrass, and occasionally in both low and tall mallee with varying understoreys. Less frequently, tawny-crowned Honeyeater inhabits low Banksia woodlands, open woodlands, or forests with heathy undergrowth, as well as areas of dense low regrowth vegetation.
