The indian Grassbird is primarily found in floodplain grassland habitats, showing a preference for wet, dense grassland near water. Across its broader range, indian Grassbird occupies varying grassland types, from tall grasslands composed of Phragmites and Saccharum in the western portion of its range to shorter, drier grasslands in other areas, where the vegetation is less than 1m in height, often maintained by grazing or controlled burns. Indian Grassbird favors denser clumps of grass that provide cover and may select different grassland types seasonally, though more research is needed to confirm this variation.
