Description
The red-breasted chat (Granatellus venustus) is a species of bird in the family Cardinalidae. It is endemic to the Mexican Pacific slope thorn forests from Sinaloa to Chiapas, where its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests.

Feeding Habits
Red-breasted Chat primarily consumes insects and arthropods, foraging adeptly through underbrush. This bird exhibits particular dietary preferences for varied invertebrates, using a combination of quick movements and sharp vision to locate its prey. No unique dietary adaptations noted.
Habitat
Red-breasted Chat is typically found in a variety of woodland habitats, including arid to semiarid thorn forests and scrubby woodlands, particularly in areas with dense understory. This species also inhabits open second growth areas, small sections of coastal evergreen swamp forests, and regions proximate to river systems. They show a preference for deciduous forests during drier seasons, and may shift habitats or exhibit a reduced susceptibility to trapping when conditions are arid. Notably, red-breasted Chat can be found near high water table zones, sheltered behind mangroves or along riverside ecosystems.
