Description
The grandala (Grandala coelicolor) is a bird species now placed in the family Turdidae. It is an arboreal insectivore. It ranges across the northeastern Indian Subcontinent and some adjoining regions, existing primarily in the low-to-mid altitudes of the Himalayas. It is found in Bhutan, India, Myanmar, and Nepal, as well as Tibet and other areas of China.

23 cm
Feeding Habits
Grandala's diet consists primarily of insects, berries, and in autumn, fruit from orchard trees. They forage mostly on the ground in large, gregarious flocks, exhibiting distinctive chat-like wing-flicking and tail-flicking behaviors. Their stomachs often contain seeds of Vaccinium, highlighting their preference for these berries.
Habitat
The grandala thrives in high-altitude habitats characterized by rough and barren landscapes beyond the reach of forests. Its preferred environments include alpine meadows littered with boulders, screes, and stark, rocky slopes and ridges that rise above areas of low-growing shrubs. When not breeding, grandala descends to rocky mountain flanks and ridges.
