Feeding Habits
Scarlet-rumped Trogon primarily consumes insects such as Orthoptera, stick-insects, bugs, beetles, moths, and caterpillars. This bird forages by sallying from edges of clearings, mimicking shrike-like behavior, and frequently joins mixed-species flocks to feed.
Habitat
Scarlet-rumped Trogon is primarily found in the middle and lower stories of semi-evergreen and evergreen forests, including swamp and riverine types. It also inhabits dipterocarp forests across lowland, upland, and highland areas, as well as secondary forests and various plantations. Mangroves and impoverished heath forests known as kerangas are part of its habitat preferences. These environments generally consist of dense, moist forested areas that provide the necessary shelter and feeding opportunities for scarlet-rumped Trogon.
