The stripe-breasted starthroat (Heliomaster squamosus) is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is found only in regions of eastern and southeastern Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and heavily degraded former forest.

Stripe-breasted Starthroat forages for nectar, notably from Hibiscus and Erythrina, among others, and hunts insects mid-air. Feeds 3-8m above ground and exhibits territorial behavior at certain flowers, unique in attracting stripe-breasted Starthroat exclusively.
Habitat
The stripe-breasted Starthroat thrives in various environments ranging from dense forest areas to open savannas. These birds are adapted to live in lower altitude regions, where they prefer habitats with lush vegetation that can provide ample feeding opportunities and nesting sites.
