Description
The yellow-backed tanager (Hemithraupis flavicollis) is a species of bird in the family Thraupidae, the tanagers. It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname; also extreme eastern Panama in Central America. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest and heavily degraded former forest.

Yellow-backed Tanager primarily feeds on arthropods and a variety of fruits, foraging actively in the foliage. This species exhibits a specific preference for certain fruits, revealing unique dietary adaptations.
Habitat
Yellow-backed Tanager typically resides in the lush, tall humid terra firme and occasionally in várzea forests. It can also be found at the edges of forests or within shaded plantations and trees within clearings. The species inhabits both lowlands and hills across broadleaf forests of the Neotropics, with altitude ranges up to approximately 950 meters in Venezuela, 1000 meters in Colombia, and between 700 to 750 meters in Ecuador and Peru respectively.
