Habitat
Bar-winged Wood Wren is typically found in the understory of elfin forests with nutrient-poor sandy soils and sparse canopies of unevenly sized stunted trees. These birds inhabit areas with a heavy understory of ericaceous plants and typical Andean flora, including species such as Weinmania, Miconia, and Hedyosmum, among others. The ground layer within these habitats is characterized by a thick peat layer covered with mosses and lichens, and the region includes blackwater streams and sphagnum bogs.
