Feeding Habits
Large-billed Antwren primarily consume insects such as lepidopterans and orthopterans, and likely spiders. They forage 1.5-10 m above ground in pairs or groups, often with mixed-species flocks. Their methodical foraging includes short hops and frequent scanning, favoring leafy subcanopy areas. Prey is perch-gleaned using bill-stabbing motions, with sallies and fluttering pursuits for dislodged prey, rarely feeding on ground.
Habitat
The large-billed Antwren typically inhabits the understory to canopy levels of gallery forests, deciduous and semi-deciduous forests, along with palm groves. Its presence is notable in forest patches within broader savanna regions and adjacent open fields, demonstrating a preference for a variety of wooded environments.
