Description
The Bahia antwren (Herpsilochmus pileatus) or pileated antwren is a species of bird in the family Thamnophilidae. It is endemic to Brazil. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and subtropical or tropical moist shrubland. It is threatened by habitat loss.

11 cm
Feeding Habits
Bahia Antwren primarily feeds on insects and likely on spiders. Bahia Antwren forages either alone or with mixed-species flocks, usually from 5 meters up to the canopy. Bahia Antwren employs a foraging technique of gleaning from foliage, along with reaching or lunging at stems, vines, and branches, occasionally using short sallies and hover-gleans.
Habitat
The bahia Antwren is typically found in the mid-storey and canopy layers of restinga woodlands. These habitats are characterized by their low stature and growth on sandy soils, indicating a preference for environments with well-drained substrates and likely a coastal influence due to the nature of restinga ecosystems.
