Feeding Habits
Black-and-white Monjita primarily feeds on insects, catching prey by dropping from a low perch to the ground. Unique foraging behavior includes association with Saffron-cowled Blackbird flocks, although the reasons remain unclear.
Habitat
The black-and-white Monjita is typically found in wetland environments such as marshes and bogs that are rich with sedge vegetation. It also inhabits open or recently burned areas and the landward side of coastal sand dunes, often extending its foraging into adjacent grasslands. This species is predominantly found in lower altitude regions.
