Description
The scissor-tailed nightjar (Hydropsalis torquata) is a species of nightjar in the family Caprimulgidae. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, and Uruguay. Its natural habitats are dry savanna, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland, and heavily degraded former forest.

The scissor-tailed Nightjar is commonly found in a variety of open or semi-open habitats. It occupies areas such as scrubland, grasslands, and forest edges, as well as human-modified landscapes including pastures and urban parks. Adapted to environments influenced by human activities, it also occupies roadways in semi-open zones and agricultural fields.
