Feeding Habits
Red-billed Woodcreeper's diet primarily consists of small arthropods, extending to beetles, spiders, ants, wasps, and even small vertebrates like frogs and snakes. It employs sallies and gleaning, forages solo or in pairs, and often over army-ant swarms, using its robust bill for digging when needed. Red-billed Woodcreeper's foraging dominance is notable, usually ousting other species at food sources.
Habitat
The red-billed Woodcreeper typically resides in the dense understory of humid terra firme forests within the Amazonian basin and the hilly regions of the Guianas. It favors the interiors of tall primary forests but can also be found along forest edges and, occasionally, in selectively logged areas. While it tends to avoid younger secondary growth, it may inhabit older regrowth. The species is known to infrequently occupy gallery or seasonally inundated forests, as well as forests on sandy soils, and is rarely seen in savanna woodlands.
