Description
The rufous-throated sapphire (Hylocharis sapphirina) is a species of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae. It is found at forest edge, savanna-like habitats and plantations in northern and central South America.

Feeding Habits
Rufous-throated Sapphire primarily feeds on nectar from diverse plants and visits artificial feeders. It forages from ground level to treetops, catching insects mid-air and gleaning spiders from leaves. Males defend feeding territories.
Habitat
The habitat of rufous-throated Sapphire predominantly consists of forest edges and canopies in lowland regions, as well as savanna landscapes interspersed with bushes and tree clusters. These birds are also encountered in open clearings surrounding granite outcrops and within agricultural environments such as coffee plantations. Additionally, they may inhabit open coastal vegetation, although this is less common. Rufous-throated Sapphire typically forages from the lower to medium vegetation levels on the periphery of these habitats.
