Feeding Habits
Spot-backed Antbird primarily consume a variety of insects and spiders, foraging solo or in pairs close to the ground. Their diet includes beetles, ants, bees, and lepidopteran larvae. They exhibit unique clinging to vertical perches and make short sallies to snatch prey from various surfaces, occasionally following army ants transiently.
Habitat
The spot-backed Antbird is typically found in the understorey of humid evergreen forests, both lowland and foothill varieties, including terra firme, transitional, and várzea environments. It thrives near treefall gaps that promote lush understory vegetation and areas with a mix of shade and open spaces populated by slender vertical saplings. The species inhabits mature secondary woodlands adjacent to these primary forests.
