Description General Info
Description
The plain-throated antwren (Isleria hauxwelli) is a species of bird in the family Thamnophilidae. It is found in all the countries of the Amazon Basin. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Unlike other Myrmotherula, it stays near ground level often clinging sideways to saplings. The plain-throated antwren was described by the English zoologist Philip Sclater in 1857 and given the binomial name Formicivora hauxwelli. The current genus Isleria was introduced in 2012.

Feeding Habits
Plain-throated Antwren primarily consumes insects and arthropods, including beetles and spiders, and occasionally small lizards. Plain-throated Antwren forages near the ground, using lunging stabs or fluttering sallies to glean prey from vegetation or leaf litter. Unique behaviors include following army ant swarms and rejecting harvestmen. Plain-throated Antwren forages alone or in pairs, rarely joining mixed-species flocks.
Habitat
Plain-throated Antwren typically inhabits the understory of lowland evergreen forests, favoring areas where the undergrowth is well shaded. These environments often feature a moderate concentration of slender vertical stems, small palms, fallen branches, and abundant leaf litter. While generally preferring terra firme forests, plain-throated Antwren can also be found in both várzea and igapó forests, as well as transitional zones. Notably, plain-throated Antwren tends not to reside near streams or in swampy areas, unlike some ecologically similar species.
